Expendable & Disciplined: every fighter in a Guard muster is a mortal, replaceable body, and its survival is bought in numbers, cover and the chain of command rather than a heavy hide. Guard armour never climbs beyond a modest ladder — light flak on a Conscript, flak on a Guardsman, carapace on a veteran or Scion, a refractor field on an officer, plate over an Ogryn — and no fighter here shrugs off wounds the way a transhuman does. In exchange, the muster fields more bodies than any rival and holds them in the fight by drill and by the officers among them. While a fighter stands within reach of its command, it endures; a leaderless mob, for all its numbers, breaks and runs.
